Frequently Asked Questions
●
Are there any reception shadows in the coverage area?
► As a rule, no. However, our site surveys are the primary tool we use to make sure that coverage is available at your chosen location.
● Will the connection become unreliable in bad weather?
► Provided you have power backup for onsite radios, you should experience reliable operation. Bad weather (e.g. heavy rain, snow, fog) does not affect link quality after a site survey and successful installation are completed.
●
Does OffGrid Wireless support the use of mobile laptop or phone connections?
► Yes. Our focus is ensuring high-speed, reliable point-to-point services. Establishment of localised WiFi can be provided upon request.
●
How secure is it? Is my transmitted data able to be intercepted?
► All OffGrid Wireless installations use high quality encryption and security for the links. A high level of security is built in to every OffGrid Wireless link.
Your link data cannot be unscrambled, modified, copied or viewed by another party.
●
What sort of data can be transmitted (e.g. voice or video)?
► OffGrid supports standard TCP/IP version 4 data communications. This includes traffic types which require a Quality of Service (QOS). We apply QOS to specific sites as requested.
●
Can this link be used for off-site backups?
► With sustained bandwidth, high security, no data caps, and high data transmission speed, links provided by OffGrid are ideally suited for off-site backups.
●
Are there any caps on the amount of data transmitted?
► No data caps apply to OffGrid Wireless links. A fair-use policy applies.
●
Is internet access provided with this service?
► OffGrid is not an ISP. Internet access can be provided by an ISP to one of your sites and passed through the OffGrid link.
●
How does the cost compare to competitive services?
► OffGrid deliberately price all versions of our service at highly competitive rates. In addition, when we set up a link for your specified speed, it remains at that speed consistently. Other service providers typically contract to supply a link at a maximum speed, and in practice the link speed is usually well below the maximum.
